The purpose of technology class (computers class) at Good Shepherd is to teach students a variety of computer related skills, from Kindergarten all the way through 8th grade. Technology class teaches students typing, Microsoft Office applications, computer applications like snip, the calculator, and notepad, as well as computer programming. Below are links to the technology syllabi for all grades, as well as links to the typing and programming sites we use to help learn.
All students at GSCS (PreK - 8th Grade) will use GSuite, Google Classroom, and GSuite applications in varying amounts to learn word processing, presentation software, and database management at age appropriate levels. Students will use various 3rd party applications to enhance their technological skills, such as Code.org for programming, and Typing.com for typing skills. Students will also have the opportunity for screen-free technology activities, such as snap circuits, to learn about electrical circuitry.
Kindergarten through 5th grade will focus heavily on typing skills, documents, presentation software, spreadsheets, and computer science programming fundamentals. The 1st - 5th grades will be using Code.Org lessons for computer programming for part of their lesson time, and programming will be taught one week a month during technology enrichment time (computer class). Kindergarten will learn computer science fundamentals using off-screen activities and pre-reading coding games.
Students in 6th - 8th grade are expected to understand how to create spreadsheets and documents, as well as effective presentations, and have proficient typing skills. Any middle school students that need to brush up on their typing skills will practice in GSuite, using Google Docs.
Below are the links to the various typing and programming sites we will use at Good Shepherd. All of these links require a log in, and the URL for some of these links may change later this Fall to school-specific links. I posted them here now, however, so that parents and students can jump on the websites to browse. Any change in links will be communicated via email, and logins will be sent home via email, as well.
