The Math Counts Competition is a national middle school competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests. The program exists in all 50 states and is supported by the National Society of Professional Engineers at the state and local levels.
Success in the MathCounts program depends on student initiative. If you like a challenge, want to learn additional math outside of class, and love word problems, MathCounts might be a good choice.
The MATHCOUNTS team at GSCS is coached by Mrs. Mary Beth Robson and Mrs. Emily Jones and is open to students in grades 6-8. 5th graders are welcome to practice with the team but may not compete.
Congratulations to Usifo Unuakhalu who placed first in the 2022 Capital Chapter competition. He was awarded a 4 year $3000/year University of Ky scholarship and a $500 scholarship from the Kentucky Engineering Foundation.
